1. CLEANING BASE OF STOOLS | To save bending down I simply brush my dry sponge mop over the base of my stools, it cleans and makes the chrome shine beautifully. |
2. CLOGGED WASHING MACHINE |
If your washing powder drawer keeps clogging due to hard water use powder in a ball instead, putting the ball in the centre of the wash. |
3. DIRTY TRAINERS |
Trainers (leather or plastic) can be cleaned successfully by placing in the washing machine at 30 or 40 degrees. |
4. IRONING MADE EASY |
Save on ironing by removing damp clothes from the washing machine and fold carefully pressing creases with both hands then hang carefully with creases in, with the exception of cottons, most clothes will not need ironing. |
5. QUICK WASHING |
When you go on holiday always keep a bin liner in your suitcase to receive the dirty washing. Then as soon as you arrive home the first item to unpack is the dirty washing sack -if put immediately in the washing machine your washing may well be done by the time you finish unpacking. If you have a late returning flight and spend the day by the pool this will help keep your wet towels and swimwear away from the rest of your packing. |
6. NET CURTAINS |
On an inconspicuous corner of your net curtains mark the initial of the room to which they belong or colour code with a permanent marker, this will save a lot of time when rehanging after washing. |
7. NOBBLY SHEETS |
Don't throw away - Just use inside out and they will feel like new. |
8. SHIRTS |
When ironing shirts secure cuflinks with a peg to keep in perfect shape. |
|
9. BLEACHED CLOTHES |
Should you splash your clothes with bleach try hiding the bleach spots with a permanent marker of matching colour - this works particularly well on patterned fabrics. Sometimes a small stain on clothes can be corrected using this method. |
10. STAINED MUGS |
If mugs become stained then whiten the by placing a teaspoon of washing powder in each mug top up with hot water and leave to stand overnight. When rinsed they will be clean. This technique works well with burnt on food too. |
11. CLEANEST BATHROOM CARPET |
If you have a small bathroom don't fix the carpet to the floor thus when it is dirty you can put the carpet in the washing machine (30/40 degrees) when washing is complete place back on the floor to dry. |
12. CARPET CLEANING |
A wire brush dipped in washing powder solution will manage to get most stains out of carpets and will bring up the carpet pile. Rub the wire brush gently into the pile. |
13. TOP TIDY |
Get into the habit of tidying the upstairs before you come down, making beds, sorting clothes and bathroom then once you are down you only have the downstairs to concentrate on. |
14. CHROME TAPS |
Use an old toothbrush for hard to get areas. After cleaning with cleaner dry to a deep shine with kitchen roll. It is prudent to label to the toothbrush “for cleaning only”. |
15. COOKER SPILLS |
Keep an old towel handy under the sink and use it in front of your cooker when frying to protect the carpet from splashes and spills. |
16. BURNT ON BAKING TRAYS |
After soaking use a non-stick food slice to remove burnt on food – this is much easier and less damaging than using a scourer. |
|
17. STAINLESS STEEL |
Use wet-wipes to clean and get a brilliant shine. |
18. BIN SCENT |
If you have too many bay leaves use a few in the bottom of your bins (under the bin liners as well as inside the bin) to keep bins shelling fresh. |
19. HANGING WASHING |
A small curcular plastic washing aid that is often used indoors, is ideal to peg lots of small items. You can then hang this with one hook outside and bring in fast should it rain. |
20. NO LAUNDRY BASKET |
Take your wet folded laundry out to the garden and place on a garden chair. This saves space and you don't have to bend down. |
21. OLD SHOES |
Renew a pair of pale shoes or boots by putting dark shoe pollish on top which well give them a new lease of life and you can wear your favourite footwear for longer. |
22. SAVE DUSTERS |
Give your mirrors or furniture a quick wipe with the towels you are about to put in the washing machine. |
23. BLINDS |
Spray with polish or cleaner and then brush with your brush from a dustpan&brush. |
24. HOOVER BAGS |
Don't throw away hoover bags, simply empty them and re-use to save money. |
25. BALLET SHOES / PUMPS |
These can be sucesfully washed on the rinse only cycle of your washing machine. No need to add washing powder. |
